Gates Cambridge Scholarship


The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is a prestigious, fully-funded scholarship awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the United Kingdom to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Established by a donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the scholarship aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.

 Types of Degrees Funded

PhD (Doctoral)

MSc or MLitt (Master's degree)

One-year postgraduate course (e.g., MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA)



Open to applicants from any country outside the United Kingdom.


Applicants must apply to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses at the University of Cambridge: PhD, MSc/MLitt, or a one-year postgraduate course.

Academic Excellence:

 Applicants should show evidence of leadership potential and a commitment to improving the lives of others.

Full Cost of Study:

 Covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, including tuition fees.

Maintenance Allowance:

 Provides a maintenance allowance for living expenses.

Travel Costs:

 Covers inbound and outbound airfare.

Additional Funding:

 May include additional discretionary funding for academic development, family allowance, and fieldwork.

Application Process

1. Apply to Cambridge:

 Submit an application for admission to a postgraduate program at the University of Cambridge via the university's Graduate Admissions Office.

2. Gates Cambridge Application: 

Complete the Gates Cambridge section of the funding application.

3. Supporting Documents:

 Provide supporting documents, including references, a research proposal (for PhD applicants), and other relevant documents.

4. Interviews:

 Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview.
